THE TRADITIONAL PERSIAN (DOLL FACE) FAQs

Traditional Persian Breeders
Diana Fineran  1987

Q: What is a Traditional Persian (Doll Face)?

A: The Persian breed has been under attack by all of the other cat associations world wide for long years now. This has resulted in two separate and distinct types within the breed as a whole.

The Traditional Persian (Doll Face) has a normal nose in length and placement in proportion to its facial structure. It is a very healthy cat.

The Extreme Persian (or Peeked Faced Persian) is the so called "show" Persian glorified by all of the other cat associations. It has a pushed in nose, so short, it looks like it ran into a wall. Its dramatically shortened tear ducks drain directly onto the face causing constant staining. Sniffelling, difficulty breathing while eating and bulbous eyes, make this cat look totally deformed facially.

THE TRADITIONAL CAT ASSOCIATION, INC. DOES NOT SUPPORT THE EXTREME PERSIAN.

Here is a dramatic presentation of the differences between the Traditional Breeds and the Exotic Persian Breeds
we do not support.

Q: What is their temperament?

A: The Traditional Persian (Doll Face) is the ultimate lap cat. They love to cuddle, yet are playful and inquisitive.

Q: What is needed to maintain them?

A: A daily brushing or combing is required to keep the coat from matting, since this is a long haired cat.

Q: What colors do they have?

A: Every color imaginable is available. Exotic color names add to the glamour of this cat with the glorious coat.

HISTORICAL RECORD

Ample proof that the Traditional Persian (Doll Face) is the true original of this respected breed is amply provided in old documents.  The following evidence covers the time frame between 1800 and 1902.  These treasured photos are among the very first printed and ignite the knowledge of the past.  From the very first descriptions, from direct quotes of breeders who first discovered the breed, and on to these photos we learn the peeked face Persian was never a part of the breed, nor intended to be from the very beginning.

NOW: Go to the history page for the Traditional Persians with lots of old photos.  It takes a while to load, so be patient!
